The Art of Art

There are always so many things happening at Leigh High School between sports, classroom activities, and other extracurricular activities.  It’s easy to see how art can be overlooked.  But the artwork being produced by students at Leigh High School deserves much more than a just a passing glance.

Art is a creative outlet for many students in this school, and they take pride in the work they complete.

As freshman Sydney Geier says, “Art is fun and a good way for me to express my imagination.”

Geier is just one of many students who flourish under the creative direction and genius of art teacher, Ann Cerv.  Cerv says her favorite part about teaching art is to see students’ bright faces each day as they develop their talent more and more.

As for me personally, art is a way for me to share my feelings with others in more ways than just words. This year, as with every year, I am stunned and amazed by the inventive, inspiring work that my classmates and are able to generate as our talent continues to grow.

Art is everywhere, whether you realize it or not. I urge all of you to show your creativity and passion for what you love. Art is extraordinary not only in the sense that it inspires those who view it, but pushes those who produce it to work hard to achieve something great in order to “wow” themselves and others. Art also teaches patience and instills in students a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Most importantly, I have always loved art because it is a way for me to be different and to be me. I think standing out in a crowd and showing the real me is a good thing.  And art allows me to do just that.
