Patriots Take Down the Knights on Parent’s Night

Third time wasn’t a charm for the Oakland-Craig Knights as they took on the Patriot volleyball team for the third time that season on October 17 at home. This game was also Parents’ Night for the Patriots.

The C and JV teams started out the night with wins in 2 sets each.

Before the varsity match up, the players took time to recognize their parents and all they do for them as players. Special recognition was given to the one senior from Leigh this year, Sydney Folken. Sydney’s parents are Chuck and Sue Folken.

With the excitement of Parent’s Night, the Pats didn’t let it get to them. They came out strong right away. The Patriots took the first set with a score of 25-19 over the Knights.

The second set was a battle. The Patriots were a little shook up, and the Knights found a way to win that set with a score of 25-21.

The Patriots didn’t let that one set bother them, and they came back strong to win the third set 25-8.

The excitement from the third set carried over to the fourth set for the Pats. They won the last set with a score of 25-12.

Senior, Sydney Folken said, “We played pretty well.  It is tough to beat a team 3 times in a season and I think we handled it well. I think that we can accomplish a lot during the last part of this season! I can’t wait to see what happens!”

Assistant Coach Briana Wietfeld said, “This game was quite the roller coaster ride. Our girls came out ready to compete and took that 1st set with force. Then we started to settle back and the Knights got a set from us. Then with pride we took back our game and worked hard to win the next sets. We were so excited to have a great crowd and a wonderful group of parents that showed their support. Thank you parents for all you do for your student athletes and for a wonderful season so far in supporting us! We are Patriot Proud!”
