Cyclones Go 1-2 at Wisner- Pilger Invite

The Wisner-Pilger Softball Invite was held on Saturday, August 25 in Wisner. The Cyclones started out the day playing Boone Central.

The game started out about even until the fourth inning when the Cardinals scored 11 runs. The Cyclones could not come back after that and finished out with their first loss of the day, 2-15.

The next game was against the NEN Vipers. Assistant coach Nicole Kabes said, “We started the game off pretty strong with Cat only allowing 1 run in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd a couple errors led to a big inning by NEN, and we weren't able to piece together hits like we were hoping. Besides the errors, we were right in the ball game with a pretty good NEN team.”

The game started off slow with only one run from the Vipers until the third inning where they came through with six. Cyclones couldn’t seem to get any runs and lost in a tough battle, 1-15.

The last game of the day was against the Pierce Bluejays, who the Patriots had just recently defeated the week prior. The girls knew they weren’t going to finish the day off without a win under their belts.

With Pierce having a rough defensive start, the Cyclones were able to score in the second inning, bringing in a total of 7 runs. The Bluejays responded after that, but it wasn’t enough to bring them ahead.

The Cyclones pulled through with a win. The final score was 8-4.

“I think all in all we played some good games. Despite the outcome, I think the team is coming along and we're looking forward to our upcoming games” sophomore Rylee Olsen said. This brings the Cyclones’ record to 3-7.
