Patriots Down Wolverines in 4
The Patriot Volleyball team made the hour-long drive to Bancroft on Tuesday, September 4 to take on the Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Wolverines. The Patriots brought home JV and Varsity wins from the trip.
To start off the night, the C-team was victorious in the first set, but just couldn’t finish it off in the last two sets, losing one set to two. In this game Cassie Brabec led the team with 3 kills. Makenna Held had 7 set assists. Bridget Rupprecht and Mckenna Stodola each had 6 digs, and Morgan Gall led the team in aces with 5.
The JV team turned on the energy, taking down BRLD in two sets. Kayden Schumacher and Kennedy Settje each recorded 3 kills. Bailey Lemburg added 5 ace serves. Brittney Urbanek led the defense with 5 digs.
Finally the Varsity finished off the night with a final win. The Patriots played strong and took the game in 4 sets. The Patriots battled and stayed mentally tough in the first two sets, but in the third set, BRLD played very scrappy defense and nearly error-free offense, taking a set from the Patriots.
In the last set the Patriots showed no mercy, allowing BRLD only 10 points, winning the game 25-10.
Head Coach Becky Schneider asserted, “Overall, we played really well against BRLD. I felt like we controlled the tempo most of the time, served aggressively, and did a nice job of utilizing free balls. We had a few to many unforced errors in the 3rd set and couldn’t quite recover. We finished on a high note and played exceptionally well in the fourth set.”
On offense, Ashlynn Novotny and Hannah Kasik led the Patriots with 18 and 17 kills respectively. Kaegan Held orchestrated the offense with 39 set assists. Holly Kuhr led the defense with 15 digs.
With this win, the Patriots improve their record to 3-1.
