FFA Attends Annual Husker Harvest Days

As an annual tradition, the students from the Leigh-Clarkson FFA Chapter made the road trip to Grand Island, Nebraska to experience Husker Harvest Days.

This year, Husker Harvest Days was September 11th through the 13th. The FFA Chapter went on the second day, Wednesday, September 12th.

Due to an abundance of new freshman members this year, only sophomores through seniors attended Husker Harvest Days. This consisted of a total of 25 members, including 8 sophomores, 7 juniors, and 9 seniors.

While students were there, they were required to locate three vendors specific to what they have been learning, have a conversation about their product or products, and obtain a vendor signature. They each also visited 3 booths that they were interested in. Some of these booths included Mycogen and Big Iron.

Ag Advisor Mrs. Brandy Held said, “Husker Harvest Days provides students in agricultural classes the unique opportunity to take information they have learned in the classroom and see how it can be applied in the agricultural industry. Allowing students to participate in events like Husker Harvest Days engages students in hands-on learning while also working on their communication skills through conversations with product vendors. I felt the day was a success. Students engaged in various learning opportunities by welding, talking to vendors and visiting colleges.  We are fortunate to have young people who represent both the Leigh and Clarkson communities with pride.

Senior FFA member Hannah Kasik said, "As a chapter, we have gone to Husker Harvest Days every year. It is always a good experience for us because we learn more about current businesses in agriculture. We spend the day visiting with agronomists and salesman. Myself and other students look forward to this every year!"
