Patriots Finish 3rd in Stanton Tournament

It was an early morning for the Patriot team on Saturday, September 15. The Patriots played a total of 3 games against the teams of Twin River, Stanton, and Battle Creek in the competitive Stanton Tournament.

The first game was against Twin River. The Patriots came out strong and started the day out with a win. The Patriots defeated the Titans in the first 2 sets, 25-14 and 25-18. Senior Hannah Kasik led the team with 11 kills.  Senior Holly Kuhr had 9 digs.

The Patriots took a fall to the Stanton Mustangs in the next game. The Patriots battled hard but fell short in the first and second set with a score of 25-12 and 25-16. Senior Beth Wiese led the team with 3 kills.

The Patriots finished their day off with a victory against a good Battle Creek team. In this neck-and-neck game, the Patriots pulled out the win.  Their first set finished 25-22. Then they dropped the second set 24-26. In the third set, they finished the job, 25-21. Clarkson Junior, Ashlynn Novotny, lead the team with 13 kills.  Kaegan Held had 31 set assists, and Halee Steffensmeier and Sara McEvoy had 15 and 14 digs respectively.

This earned the Patriots 3rd place in the 8-team tournament.

Clarkson Senior Paige Moore said, “It was a great day with tough competition. We had to play at our best to beat the teams we did. In the end, we finished with 3rd place, higher than any Patriot team from the past at the tournament.”

Head Coach Becky Schneider added, “The Stanton tournament always brings good, competitive teams and I thought we played the best we've played at this tournament.  The team set the goal of placing 3rd or higher, and they accomplished that goal with 3rd place!  We did face Stanton again in which we didn't execute as well as we should have, but our games against Twin River and Battle Creek were great battles!  In those games, we did the little things right and capitalized when we were supposed to!  Coming away from that tournament 2-1 and placing 3rd, I'd say it was a great outing for us!”
