Patriots’ Pen and Voice of Democracy Winners Announced

Cecil Fields of the Leigh American Legion Post 302 announced the local winners of the Patriots’ Pen Contest and Voice of Democracy Contest at the annual Veteran’s Day Program in Leigh.  

 

Patriots’ Pen is an essay contest for students in grades 6-8.  Mrs. Brabec’s 6th grade class from Leigh participated.  This year’s theme was “Why I Honor the American Flag.”  Brynn Settje placed third, Kammy Held placed second, and Amaiya Ross was awarded first place.  Her essay will move on to be judged at the state level.

 

Voice of Democracy is an essay and oratorical contest for students in grades 9-12.  Students must write and record a 3-5 minute speech. This year’s topic was “Why My Vote Matters.”  Mrs. Fischer’s sophomore English class entered the contest. Placing third was Jose Aguirre. Finishing second was Elijah Costello.  The first place winner who will move on to the state level was Emily Loseke.

 

Both Amaiya and Emily read their essays to the audience at the Veteran’s Day program.
