Five Students Attend National FFA

(L to R): Cameron Miller, Riana Grotelueschen, Quintessence Indra, Molly Langhorst, and Natalie Reeves attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

Five lucky students from Leigh and Clarkson took an excursion to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the 91st National FFA Convention. The students left on Tuesday, October 23 and returned home on Saturday, October 27.

The students who attended were sophomores Riana Grotelueschen and Molly Langhorst, juniors Natalie Reeves and Quintessence Indra, and senior Cameron Miller.

On the way to Indianapolis, the students took tours at Iowa State University. They toured the ISU Dairy and Composting Facility. Here they saw the dairy barn at the college and how the feeding system works. They also saw the beef and swine barns.

The second tour they completed was of the ISU Bioresearch Center. Here they saw how every part of the corn stalk is turned into materials that we use every day, such as oil.

The last tour was in Davenport, Iowa. The students toured the John Deere facility. They saw how planters are made and how the assembly line works.

At Nationals, the students participated in a multitude of activities. They attended a Garth Brooks concert, went to sessions, and learned how to help the chapter at workshops. They also watched various events.

Sophomore, Riana Grotelueschen said, “Having the opportunity to go to Indianapolis was amazing! Taking part in the different leadership workshops and watching different Parli. Pro. demonstrations taught me more of what FFA is about.”

Advisor, Brandy Held said, “The members who went to National FFA had the opportunity to be part of an awesome experience. They participated in leadership workshops, and watched various competitions. They came back with a new outlook for the future of the chapter and are excited to start trying new things.”

This was a great experience for the students and a trip they will never forget!
