Patriot Wrestling Battles at First Quad of the Season

By: Natalie Reeves, a junior at Leigh High School

With winter sports seasons in full swing, the Patriot wrestling team was ready to get out on the mat and compete. They had their first competition on Thursday November 29, where they traveled to Clarks for the High Plains Quad.

The Patriot wrestling team consists of five wrestlers: senior, John Langhorst; junior, Colby Harney; sophomore, Layne Krutz; and freshmen, Brock Marxsen and Cooper Vance.

There were 4 teams there, including the Patriots. These teams were Elkhorn Valley, High Plains, and Meridian.

The Patriots’ first dual was against Elkhorn Valley, the next dual was against High Plains, and the last dual was against Meridian. The patriots weren’t able to win a dual because they didn’t have the numbers to match the other teams.

Senior John Langhorst said, “It was nice to start the season off and just get back into competing again.”

Head Coach, Tyler Reeves said, “We did some good things. I’m looking forward to see how we do this season. Layne unfortunately broke his collarbone his first match. He tried to give it a go the next match, but couldn’t finish. Hopefully we can get him back by the end of January.

Individual Records For the Quad:
John Langhorst: 2-1
Colby Harney: 3-0
Layne Krutz: 0-2

Brock Marxsen: 3-0

Cooper Vance: 1-1
