Students Attend Digital Citizenship Presentation

Karen Haase took a selfie with Clarkson, Leigh, and Howells-Dodge students at the assembly and posted it on her twitter account.

On November 1, the entire Leigh student watched al digital citizenship presentation by Karen Haase. Karen is an exciting, down-to-earth speaker from KSB Law Firm who specializes in cases that deal with social media exploitation. She gave two separate presentations, one to high schooler’s and one to grade-schoolers, about some of the consequences of misusing media, and some of the specific examples she’s seen working as a lawyer in Nebraska.

Students from Leigh, Clarkson, and Howells-Dodge attended the presentation in the Clarkson gym.

“Karen Haase really taught us about how important it is to be conscious of what we post on social media,” sophomore Alicia Holmberg said. “She taught us that our actions have long-term consequences because once something is posted to the internet, it can’t be erased, and it will follow us for the rest of our lives.  She gave us “the grandma rule” and said that if you would be embarrassed by your grandma seeing what you post on social media, then don’t post it.”
