Leigh Takes Third Place at State Play Production!

After placing first at districts, the Leigh One-Act team had the opportunity to compete for a state title with their play “Phantom of the Playground.”

The D2 State One-Act Play Production Championships were held in the Johnny Carson theatre at Norfolk High School on December 5. Leigh performed at 11:30 am. Leigh competed against five other schools: Loomis, Chambers, Shickley, McPherson County, and St. Edward. Leigh ended up finishing in third place out of the teams that were there.

McPherson County placed first with their play “Dark Road” and St. Edward placed second with their play “Captain Bree and Her Lady Pirates.”

Logan Becher, who played the “Phantom”, Holly Kuhr, who played “Christine”, and Kanyon Held, as “Raoul” all received Outstanding Actor/Actress awards.

When asked how he felt about receiving an outstanding actor award, Logan Becher said, “Up until this year I always had numerous smaller parts each year, so getting an acting award my first year with a bigger part is a great feeling. It’s fun to see all of our hard pay off at the end of the season.”

When asked about the season, director Kylie Holatz said, “This One Act season will be one to remember.  I am so proud of how hard the cast and crew worked this season.  It was so fun to watch especially seeing all of the growth from performance to performance.  This script was written by a fellow Nebraska high school coach, and it is a parody of “Phantom of the Opera”.

“The cast and crew worked so hard.  These seniors will be missed greatly, but they also left a mark on the Leigh One Act program.  They were great leaders and left what you would call a legacy for the ones who will perform after them on the stage.  We had many younger actors step up this year and I am proud to say we had 46 members this season and we hope to see just as many next year. Thanks for all who have helped get this program to where it is today!  Great work everyone!!”
