C Team Basketball Battles the Flyers
The St. Francis Flyers C-Team basketball squad made the trip to Clarkson to compete against the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots on December 10th. Both teams from the girls’ game and the boys’ game put up a great fight.
The night started off with the girls game. The Flyers came out with lots of energy and led the Patriots at half, 26-10. After coming out ready to fight back at halftime, the patriots slowly cut into the Flyers lead.
They each battled back and forth continuously until the end of the game. The Clarkson-Leigh Patriots came out on top of the St. Francis Flyers and won with a final score of 32-29.
Freshman, Makenna Held said “We came in ready to play offensively and defensively. Even though we were behind by 16 at halftime, we made a great comeback. Making our free throws really helped. All in all it was a great game and we all played together well.”
Girls C-Team coach, Abby Sayers said, “Our St. Fran win really boosted the confidence of the C-team. I was proud of them for playing with heart and coming back from being down 10-26 at halftime. We outscored the opponent 23-3 in the second half and came out with a win. I'm excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us!"
After the girls game, the boys were up next. Unfortunately, the Flyers again jumped to an early lead, leading the Patriots 20-1 at halftime.
The boys’ team could not mount a second-half comeback the way the girls did. The final score of the boys’ game was 10-41.
Freshman, Kanyon Held said, “I think we did a pretty good job of breaking the press that Sr. Francis put on us. If more of our shots would have fallen, it would have been a much closer game.”
After the St. Francis matches, the girls’ C team record sits at 1-1, and the boys are 0-2.
