Boys and Girls C Team Battle David City and Lakeview
The Patriot C-Team basketball teams continue getting better and showing teams what they’ve been working on all season. Both girls and boys played David City Scouts on Monday, January 7.
The battles that went on that evening were great to watch. The girls’ basketball team came out slow in the 1st and 2nd quarters, only scoring a total of 3 points. While the Patriots only scored 3 points, the Scouts came out with more energy and scored 11 by halftime.
After halftime the Patriots were ready to fight back, but unfortunately, by the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 5-20. During the 4th quarter Clarkson-Leigh scored a total of 16 points to get back in the game, but the Scouts ended out on top 21-27.
Freshman, Natalie Brabec said, “We played a very good game, but we just couldn't finish it on the scoreboard. They beat us on the points in the first half of the game and still ended up winning. From this game, we have some things that we need to work on, but overall, I think that our team did good this game.”
After the girls’ game, the boys took the court. They showed tremendous effort the whole game. At halftime it was a close one with the Patriots ahead, 18-17. In the second half the Patriots stopped the Scouts defense pretty well. This led them to a victory over the Scouts 38-30.
Freshman, Logan Schroeder was the player with the hot hand on Monday night. He scored 19 of the team’s 38 points. He couldn’t be stopped, hitting 5 threes throughout the game.
Freshman, Isaac Rodenburg said, “They were a good opponent and not an easy win for us.”
A few days later in the week the Patriots had another chance to battle a good team. On Thursday, January 10th the Columbus/Lakeview Vikings traveled to Clarkson to compete against the Clarkson Leigh Patriots.
The girls started off the night. They played a very close game all the way through. It wasn’t a high scoring game, but both teams played great defense.
The game was 10-10 at the start of the 4th quarter. It stayed that way until about 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The Vikings scored and went up by 2, and that’s the way the game ended. The final score was 10-12.
Freshman, Makenna Held said “We came in with a good game plan and had been practicing offenses to run against their defense and I think we did a pretty decent job in the first half. It got really close with a tie game in the bottom of the fourth quarter. They got up by two with a minute left and we couldn't make a shot. I think it came down to listening and focusing during time outs. Overall we played hard against a bigger opponent and we are looking forward to our next game.”
A few minutes later, the boys started their game against the Vikings. Columbus/Lakeview got after it right away and got a little bit of a lead on the Patriots.
Clarkson-Leigh played a good game of basketball, but they couldn’t seem to stop their opponent. The game ended with a score of 15-29, favoring the Vikings.
Freshman, Jacob Eisemann said, “I think our C team is improving and can't wait to continue the season. I think if more of our layups would have fallen I think there would have been a different outcome.”
