FCCLA Holds Family Christmas and Center for Survivors Drive

The Clarkson-Leigh FCCLA chapter had a busy month of December.

The month began with the annual FCCLA Family Christmas event on Sunday, December 9.

This is where all of the FCCLA members and their families gather and eat and make a craft. Families gathered in the Leigh High School gym for this event.

FCCLA advisor Megan Hillen said, “The chapter officers and I are very grateful for all of the families that attended Family Christmas this year. It is such a wonderful time of year to spend time with our families and FCCLA family.”

This year the event was coordinated with a Center for Survivors donation drive.  For their FCCLA STAR project, Maddie Pelan, Kayden Schumacher, and Bailey Lemburg are taking donations to go to the Center for Survivors. This is a place where people can go if they have been sexually assaulted.

“In all, we received a total of over 250 donations for Center for Survivors,” Schumacher said.  “We wanted to do this because often times people in abusive relationships don’t want to leave their partner because they will be struggling financially.  Center for Survivors helps lifts some of that burden for them. We are hoping that by donating these items, we will help them see that people of the community have their back and are more than willing to help.”

Freshman Kennedy Settje said, I thought the FCCLA Family Christmas was a good time to spend quality time with our families. We did some different painting activities that were a lot of fun! All of the donations for Center for Survivors were greatly appreciated as well!
