Jr/Sr High Christmas Concert Held in Leigh

The Clarkson-Leigh Jr/Sr High Christmas Concert went off without a hitch this year. It was the first Christmas concert that Mrs. Cindy Settje and Mrs. Elizabeth Kowalski put on together.

The concert was hosted at the Leigh High School on December 20th.

The first performance of the night was the Clarkson-Leigh Junior High Band. They played three songs: It’s the Most “Wonderful Time of the Year” arranged by Michael Story, “O Come Emmanuel” arranged by Michael Story, and “And to All a Goodnight” by Andy Clark.

The second to perform was the Senior High Choir. The full choir sang three songs along with two smaller group songs. The full choir sang: “Mary, Mary” by Mary Donnelly and George Strid, “Calypso Allelu” by Jill Gallina, and “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” arranged by Ed Lojeski. The Sr. High Women’s Choir then sang “Gloria” arranged by Ruth Artman.

At this point in the concert a special song was performed by the East Husker Conference Women’s Participants. They sang “Christmas is a Feeling” by Natalie Sleeth. The girls in this small group were: Halee Steffensmeier, Abigail Langdon, Shyla Shaw, Bianca Aguirre, Abbi Brabec, Meranda Kudrna, Natalie Reeves, Lexi Schroeder, Rylee Olson, and Alicia Holmberg. Alicia Holmberg also accompanied the group on flute.

The next group to play was the Jr. High Choir. They sang “Christmas Carol Cheer Medley” with special narrators: Drew Beeson, Alyssa Guernsey, Isaac Baumert, Morgan Bunner, and Elijah Tipton. Their second song was “Go Tell It On the Mountain” arranged by Jim Esposito.

The choir director, Mrs. Settje said, "I was so excited and proud with how all of the students sang out this year. I was very pleased with the concert, especially since we tried to do some new things like having the girl’s Honor Choir sing and our finale where the High School Band played a medley of Christmas carols while the Jr. High sang the songs."

To finish out the concert the Sr. High Band played three songs: “All I Want for Christmas is You” arranged by Michael Brown, and “A Christmas Canon” arranged by Michael Green.

The closer was “A Christmas Festival” arranged by Robert W. Smith where the High School Band played it and the Jr. High Choir sang along.

Mrs. Kowalski, the band director said, “The Christmas concert went very well! We started working on the songs in late October to get a head start. Some of the songs had difficult rhythms, but they worked and worked at it until the rhythms became a lot easier to play.  All of the Junior High and Senior High students did a fantastic job and I am very proud of them all."
