Patriots Face Tough Competition at Bergan Quad and Wayne Invite

After a tough weekend at Osceola, the Patriot Wrestling Team was ready to get back out on the mats and compete. They traveled to Fremont for the Archbishop Bergan Quad on Tuesday, December 11.

There were 4 teams there, including the Patriots. These teams were Archbishop Bergan, Howells-Dodge, and Logan View .

The Patriots first dual was against Bergan, the next dual was against Howells-Dodge, and the last dual was against Logan-View. The Patriots weren’t able to win a dual because they didn’t have the numbers to match the other teams.

After a rough quad and three days of practice, the Patriot Wrestling team made their way to Wayne on Saturday, December 15 to compete in the Wayne Invite. The Patriots were excited to be competing against some higher-class schools and were ready to face the challenge.

There were 11 schools there. As a team, the Patriots finished 10th.  Schuyler won the tournament.

Freshman, Cooper Vance, said, “We went there fired up and ready to go, so we all went out there to the mats after weigh-ins and we lost a couple, but won a couple. The Wayne Invite has a good variety of competition and it was exciting for the team to get its first medal of the season.”

There was one medalist at the Wayne Invite. Freshman, Brock Marxsen, placed 3rd.

Head Coach, Tyler Reeves said, “At Bergan we face some solid teams. Team wise, Bergan is ranked #2 in Class D, Logan-View is ranked #7 in Class C, and Howells-Dodge has more kids out than us so it’s really tough to win any duals this year just based on numbers. We got overwhelmbed by the competition that night. We came back, had a good couple of days at practice, and competed much better on Saturday in Wayne.”
