Boys and Girls C-Teams Both Lose to Jaguars
The pressure was on the Clarkson Leigh girls C team. The JV and Varsity girls had both won against Howells Dodge, and the junior high beat them in four overtimes. Monday, January 14 was the C-team’s time to shine against the Jaguars.
But, unfortunately, a win wasn’t in the cards for the C-team squad. They came out slow on defense in the first quarter. At the end of the second quarter the Patriots were down 3-29.
Great defense the second half of the game held the Jaguars to only ten points. But the Patriots’ offense couldn’t get the shots to fall, which resulted in a tough loss, 14-39.
Mrs. Abby Sayers, girls’ assistant coach, had this to say:
“We started off the game a little slow on defense and weren't much of an offensive threat. However, I was proud of our team’s overall effort throughout the game. Our main goal on C team is to get better every game, and I think we have improved significantly since our first game. For the remainder of the season we need to focus on our strength, starting the game with high energy. We need to continue to have girls willing to be aggressive on offense! We have five games left and I'm really excited to see what we can accomplish.”
The boys were up next. They knew they would need to battle hard against the Jags to win. The Patriots came out ready to play in the first quarter. It was an even score 16-19, Patriots behind.
But the Patriots got outscored in the second half 8-23, resulting in a loss. The boys battled hard but couldn’t pull out with a win.
Zane Williams, a freshman at Leigh said, “"It was a good learning experience for our team, but our shots weren't falling. If they did, it would have been a closer game.”
