Kaegan Held and Bianca Aguirre Named “Students of the Month”

In the Leigh High School cafeteria, a quote hangs on the wall, and it reads, “Others may not remember your accomplishments, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.” And before graduating, the 2019 senior class is making this quote a reality.

The January Student of the Month award went to two members of the senior class.

Both senior recipients of this award have started the new year on a high note, and before they graduate, they’ll be sure to leave an impact. Kaegan Held and Bianca Aguirre have been named the January winners, and I think we would all agree that they’re both very deserving.

Kaegan Held is the daughter of Kip and Kamin Held of Leigh. She’s the granddaughter of Dennis and Linda Hillen of Creston and Lorraine Held of Leigh.

She participates in volleyball, basketball, track, FBLA, FFA, journalism, yearbook, Quiz Bowl, One-Act, Youth Advisory Council, band, and she’s a class officer. Her favorite subjects are biology and math, and outside of school, she enjoys riding horses and spending time with her dogs.

After graduating, Kaegan plans to attend Briar Cliff University, majoring in Biology.  After Briar Cliff, she plans on going to vet school and earning her DVM.

"I have received this award before, but it’s still nice to see teachers realizing my work ethic throughout all of my years of high school. I appreciate that my work doesn’t go unnoticed,” Kaegan said.

Here is what Kaegan’s teachers had to say about her:

“Kaegan is a very hardworking and driven person. She’s a great help and always has a positive attitude.”

”Kaegan knows the meaning of hard work and puts it into everything she does. Whether it’s academics, athletics, or community work, Kaegan puts her all into it and achieves at a high level.

The other equally deserving recipient of the award is Bianca Aguirre. She’s the daughter of Joe and the Cristina Aguirre of Leigh. She participates in choir, band, and One-Act, and her favorite subject is tech apps. Her hobbies include cooking for her family and hanging out with her pets.

After graduating Bianca plans on becoming a veterinary technician or possibly a full vet.

“It feels great receiving this award, and it makes me feel that my accomplishments and what I do around the school really get noticed,” Bianca said.

Here is what Bianca’s teachers had to say about her:

“Bianca has really stepped up and become a leader in my tech apps class. She helped organize the elementary students for their Goodwill Project and edited the entire video. She always has a smile on her face, has a great sense of humor in class, and turns in quality work.”

“Bianca has really grown into a solid student. She works very hard and always has a positive attitude in class. She’s also very kind, friendly, and helpful.”

And as I think we would all agree these seniors and their class have definitely impacted Leigh High and all of us in the community. Congratulations Kaegan and Bianca!
