Patriot Basketball Battles the Gators
The Clarkson-Leigh boys and girls basketball teams continue their work on the court. January 22nd the Patriot basketball programs competed against Wisner-Pilger.
The Clarkson-Leigh girls continue to extend their win streak, improving their record to 14-2 after defeating the Lady gators 40-30.
Both teams finished the first quarter equal, each with a score of 11. Though, the Lady Patriots made quick work in the second and third quarters outscoring Wisner-Pilger 25-9. The Lady Gators weren’t going down without a fight though, cutting Clarkson-Leigh’s lead to only ten points. Yet, his wasn’t enough for Wisner-Pilger to mount a comeback as the Patriots were to much to handle, outscoring Wisner-Pilger 40-30.
“It was a good win and we battled until the end. Our defense is what kept us in the game. As a team, we struggled with offensive rebounding. Otherwise, I'm excited for our upcoming games. It will be a challenge, but I think we're ready!” said senior, Hannah Kasik.
Following the girls’ varsity game, the Patriot boys’ team took to the court to warmup and take on tough Wisner-Pilger team.
Both Clarkson-Leigh and Wisner-Pilger came out strong and ready to fight. The Gators lead through the first half, with the Patriots close behind with a score of 26-20. Taking the court again rested and ready to play, the Patriot boys knew that they couldn’t let up in the second half and continue to fight for the lead. Clarkson-Leigh came up short, losing the match to Wisner-Pilger 61-39.
The Patriot boys’ record following the game is 4-10.
Boys head coach, Jeff Bachman, said after the game, “I was very pleased with our defensive effort, we just didn't shoot well enough to pull out the win. I am pleased how we are continuing to progress as a team.”
