Leigh Speech Team Opens Season
Another speech season has begun, and the Leigh High speech team is getting busy. The speech team is small but mighty this year, consisting of only five members.
Holly Kuhr and Alex Fischer are the seniors on the team this year. Alicia Holmberg is the lone sophomore. Aiden Miller and Audie Tejkl are the newest members of the team, both freshmen.
January 23rd brought the first meet of the season, hosted by Howells Dodge. There was a total of 17 teams in attendance. This, however, didn’t stop the team from doing their best.
Results are as follows : Holly - Varsity Humorous Prose - Superior Rating, Alicia - Novice Serious Prose - Superior Rating, Aiden - Novice Extemporaneous - 4th Place Medal.
January 26th brought about the second meet for the speech team. This meet was hosted by Bancroft-Rosalie. There were 13 total schools in attendance, but once again, this did not stop the speech team.
Results are as follows : Holly - Humorous Prose - Superior Rating, Alicia - Serious Prose - excellent, Alex - Poetry - excellent & Extemporaneous - excellent, Aiden - Extemporaneous - Superior Rating.
Holly Kuhr is excited as her final speech season begins. “It was nice to break the ice with the first speech meet and get back into the speech groove. Although none of us made finals, we know what we need to work on now. I’m excited to see what the season brings.”
Good luck with the rest of the season Leigh Speech Team!
