Junior High Students Attend Honor Choir and Band Clinic
Students have a love for music, no matter what age they are.
Some junior high students look their love out of the classroom on Saturday, February 2.
These select members of the Leigh and Clarkson Jr. High had the opportunity to participate in an Honor Choir and Honor Band Clinic in Stanton along with students from 26 other schools.
12 students from Clarkson and Leigh attended with 9 participating in Choir and 3 in Band. Those participating in choir were Lilly Bunner, Emily Moore, Leah Pinkston, Morgan Bunner, Issac Baumert, John Bunch, Cadence Craig, Ashley Guillen, and Hazel Mundt. Those participating in band were Ella Kappel, Jordin Graybill, and Alyssa Gurnsey.
The clinician for the Honor Choir was Clay H. Blackman. He has taught all ages from Kindergarten through college for 33 years. He currently teaches at Stromsburg, NE. The clinician for the Honor Band was Dr. Josh Calkin. He is currently Associate Professor of Low Brass and Assistant Director of Bands at Wayne State College.
Choir director, Mrs. Cindy Settje, felt it was a great time with very knowledgeable conductors. She said, "Sometimes students in junior high do not always appreciate singing and playing. This gave the students who do want to take it seriously a great chance to sing and perform with their peers who also enjoy singing and playing more challenging music.”
The students spent the day playing their instruments and singing. They learned many new techniques and had a fun day together.
Leah Pinkston, a seventh grader at Leigh, said, “I got to meet so many people and make numerous friends. The trip was great, and the smiling faces of kids who love music just like me is something that I will never forget.”
