Holly Kuhr and Tanyn Larson Win “Student of the Month”

Just as February is known for Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, Leigh is known for great people. And as it has been proven time and time again, Leigh Community Schools is full of them.

Two prime examples would be Holly Kuhr and Tanyn Larson, and to celebrate these amazing students, they’ve been named the February winners of Student of the Month. And as I think we would all agree, they’re both very deserving.

Senior Holly Kuhr is the daughter of Russ and Beth Kuhr of Leigh. She participates in volleyball, One-Act, Quiz Bowl, yearbook, speech, golf, band, and the National Honor Society.

Holly’s hobbies include being outside, spending time with family and friends, and playing cards. Her favorite subject is science, and she wants to pursue a career in radiography. She plans on attending Wayne State College and then the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to study radiography.

"It’s an honor to receive this award. Thank you so much to my teachers and administration,” Holly said.

Here is what Holly’s teachers had to say about her:

“Holly is an excellent student and person. She excels at whatever she does, tries her best in all of her activities and is a fun and positive person to have around at school.”

“Holly has earned this honor before and for good reason. She is responsible, hard-working, and strives to do her best in whatever she does. She also works hard to maintain excellent grades and is a leading force with her talent, as she was nominated for acting recognition at State One-Act and is a leading force on the LHS Speech Team.”

“Holly has  been a leader in Personal Finance and is always willing to help her classmates when they have questions. She is always asking great questions in class that pertain to her future and get the other students thinking about theirs as well. She has worked really hard on scholarships and her resume, and I’m very proud of her for receiving the RHOP scholarship. What an honor to be chosen out of so many applicants!”

The other equally deserving recipient of the award is seventh-grader Tanyn Larson. She’s the daughter of Bob and Kelsey Larson.

She’s the granddaughter of Bill and Georgia Clausen of Lindsay and Rick and Lorie of Creston.

Tanyn participates in volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, and she’s a student manager for the high school basketball team.

Her favorite subject is social studies, and her hobbies include participating in sports and hanging out with friends and family.

When asked about the recognition, the seventh grader said, “It feels great to win this award and to be recognized for something so great!”

Here is what Tanyn’s teachers had to say about her:

“Tanyn is a student who is very conscious of her grades and works hard to maintain them. She is generally very pleasant and willing to do what is asked of her in class. She is also involved in other extra-curricular activities and works hard to maintain a balance between school work and the activities she’s in. I really enjoy having Tanyn in my class!”

“Tanyn is a very hardworking and kind person. She does well in the classroom, tries her best in all of her activities, and has a positive outlook on life.”

Congratulations!
