Patriot Boys Fall at Sub-Districts

It’s that time of the season, basketball sub-districts. The Patriot boys traveled to David City for the first round of subs on Tuesday, February 19, after being rescheduled due to bad weather.

The #3 Patriots faced the #2 Fremont Archbishop Bergan Knights in Sub-district D1-3 at David City Aquinas.

The first half was rough for Clarkson-Leigh, but they didn’t give up. Right off the bat, the Knights scored 30 points in the first quarter. The Patriots put up a stout 11 points. There was still time for them to come back.

As the Knights kept putting up shots, the Patriots’ defense held the offense to only 15 points in the second quarter. Our boys kept fighting, and as a result, they scored 10 points in the second quarter.

The ending score for the first half was 21-45, Patriots down.

The ball just wasn’t in our court the second half. The Patriots shots just wouldn’t fall, unlike their opponent.

The Knights continued to pull away from the Patriots.

At the end of the second half, the score was 35-75. The game resulted in a Patriot loss and sent Archbishop Bergan on to the next round, where they defeated Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family to win the Sub-District.

The Patriot season ended with a 7-14 record.

Head Coach Jeff Bachman said, “I was really proud of how hard we competed, but we ran into a really good team. This season was a lot of fun and it was great to see this team grow.”
