Senior Spotlight: Alex Fischer
December 7, 2000, was an amazing day for the Fischer family as they welcomed Alex John Fischer to the world in Sioux City, IA.
Alex’s parents are Eric and Misty Fischer. Alex has two full siblings, Kim, age 22, and Brady, age 19; two half siblings, Aaron, age 26, and Alyssa, age 9; and two step siblings, Seneca, age 23, and Mary, age 14. Alex’s grandparents are Betty and the late Mark Fischer of Sioux City. The Fischer family also wouldn’t be complete without their cats, Mow and Cat, and their dog, Qimik.
To get to know this senior a little bit better, Alex says the three best words to describe him are “enthusiastic, energetic, and respectful.” His biggest pet peeve is when people try to talk to him while he has his headphones in or when he is busy working on homework. Alex says his worst habit is procrastinating.
Alex has many favorite things. His favorite subject in school is business, especially entrepreneurship. His favorite movie is Boondock Saints, his favorite song is “Remember Everything” by Five Finger Death Punch, his favorite food is liver and onions, and his favorite sports team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Outside of school and during the summer, you can find Alex watching TV, fishing or going for a run.
Throughout high school, Alex has been involved in speech for four years; band and FFA for 3 years; and wrestling for 2 years.
Alex has received multiple honors through school, but the biggest honor was being selected as the September Student of the Month in 2017.
With his accomplishments, Alex says his proudest moment was during speech season in his junior year when he earned 1st place at districts, advancing to the Class D2 Championships to place 13th in Extemporaneous Speaking.
Alex has had many memories throughout high school, but his favorite would be winning first place at district speech. Alex also says the most embarrassing moment of his high school career was trying to hit the ball off the wall during a game of six square, which resulted in the ball hitting the basketball hoop and being popped.
After high school, Alex plans to attend Northeast Community College and major in business and culinary arts.
If he could travel anywhere in the world, Alex would want to visit Australia because of his desire to experience the Australian Outback and see the unique wilderness and animals that it contains. Seeing the Northern Lights in person and owning his own business are also on his bucket list.
After college, in 10-15 years, Alex sees himself opening his own restaurant, serving great food, and having a good time with friends and customers. If he is fortunate enough to win the lottery, Alex intends to help his family out as much as possible, pay off all his school loans and debt, and then put the rest of the money in savings.
Alex’s joking advice to underclassmen is, “Procrastinate. The longer you wait to do your homework, the wiser you’ll be and the better grade you’ll get on it.”
Congratulations and good luck, Alex!
