District Final Disappointment

Girls’ BB Spectacular Season Ends in Loss

The Lady Patriots closed their 2018-19 basketball season with a tough loss to Blue Hill. They competed in the district final game in York on February 22 with high hopes of making it to state. The girls worked their tails off and played extremely hard the entire game, but the game ended in disappointment, 25-41.

“It was a really tough loss,” sophomore Cassidy Hoffman said.   “We came in with a good defensive game plan and executed it decently, but we just couldn’t get anything going offensively.  It was a really hard way to end the season, but I’m grateful for the experience I got playing with the seniors and am looking forward to next season.”

Head coach Matt Murren was proud of his team’s efforts during the game and throughout the entire season.

The girls battled all night for 32 minutes and laid everything on the court,” Murren said.  “We were able to frustrate Blue Hill with our defensive pressure, allowing only 21 points through 3 quarters. Unfortunately, shots didn't fall for us that night and sometimes that happens in the game of basketball. Everyone wanted it so bad and played their hearts out on that court. I couldn't have been more proud of their effort. This was the greatest season that we've had as a Patriot basketball program. The season didn't end the way that anyone wanted it to, but the girls have a lot to be proud of and hold their heads high about. Going 21-4 with the schedule that we play is impressive and a credit to the girls. I am extremely proud to say that I was able to coach these 26 kids and watch them grow as a team throughout the whole year.

The team will certainly miss the seniors who led the way this year: Kaegan Held, Hannah Kasik, Beth Wiese, Paige Moore, and Halee Steffensmeier.

The lady Patriots are determined to not let this loss define their season. They set many individual and team records this year and have a lot to be proud of!
