Kennedy Settje and Kevin Becerril Awarded “Student of the Month”

Leigh High School: a place that never seems to be short on academic excellence, leadership, and motivation. At this month’s “Student of the Month” assembly, this was once again proven as Kennedy Settje and Kevin Becerril have shown dedication, earning this very well-deserved award.

 

Freshman Kennedy Settje’s parents are Chad and Kristi Settje of Creston. Her grandparents are Gary and Judy Blessen of Creston; Tom and Sue Kabes of Clarkson; and Mike and Cindy Settje, Stan and Marilyn Settje, and Lavern and Joyce Wendt of Leigh.

 

Kennedy participates in volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, FBLA, and journalism. Outisde of school, she enjoys being with her friends, playing basketball, and shopping. Kennedy’s favorite subject in school is social studies. She currently is not sure on her career plans after school.

 

After receiving the honor, Settje said, “I have never won this award before. It feels good that teachers are recognizing the things that I excel at and that they see good character in me.”

 

Here is what Kennedy’s teachers had to say about her:

 

“Kennedy is a very hard-working student who cares a great deal about doing well in school and her extra-cirriculars. She is helpful and fun to have in class.”

 

“Kennedy is an extremely talented young lady who excels in the classroom and outside of it. She is kind, helpful, and is emergins as a leader in her class.”

 

Freshman Kevin Becerril is the son of Juan and Luz Becerril. Kevin is the grandson of Manuel Tejeda and Alvina Aguilar and Pablo Becerril and Maria Vega.

 

Kevin participates in One Act and also enjoys his hobby of playing video games outside of school. His favorite subject in school is social studies and is looking forward to taking a Careers class his sophomore year to learn more about his career options. Kevin’s current future plans are to go into the law enforcement field, possibly working as a law enforcement officer or on a S.W.A.T team.

 

“I am very grateful for this award,” said Becerril. “Not many people in school earn this award and I’m very grateful for every teacher that has helped me throughout high school.”

“Kevin is an extremely hard-working student. He has a very positive outlook on life and is very helpful in class. He always tries his hardest and is helpful around the school as well.”

 

“Kevin is a great kid to have in class. His positive attitude and work ethic help him achieve.”
