Leigh Places 10th at NECC Scholastic Day
It was a battle of the brains March 20th at Northeast Community College. Students competed in the 32nd annual Scholastic Day competition. A series of different tests all based on a different topic where given to students who were entered in each category. There were 20 students from various schools competing in each category.
The day went well for Leigh as we had three third place medalist, two second place medalist, and two first place medalist.
Seniors medaling included Alex Fischer, Kaegan Held, and Hannah Kasik. Alex placed 3rd in Administrative Professional, Kaegan 2nd in English Composition, and Hannah 2nd in Technical Math.

Kanyon Held was the lone freshman to medal. He finished 3rd in Algebra I.
Students were nominated by their teachers to take specific tests in various subject areas.

Freshman that competed were Kennedy Settje, Darian Ober-Brown, Calvin Wemhoff, Justine Thompson, Jacob Eisenmann, and Makenna Held.
The team placed 10th out of 32 schools in class D1.
Jay Knaak, Scholastic team sponsor had this to say about the competition:
“The Leigh students participating in the NECC Scholastic contest represented their school, town and family well. We were again one of the top schools in Northeast Nebraska. Cassidy and Calvin should be very proud of finishing first in their tests. Five other students placed second or third and will receive medals for their accomplishments. I feel it is a good experience to participate in these contests to give kids experience in putting their best foot forward and challenge themselves to not just be "good enough" but to strive to be the best.”
