Girls Place 3rd at Stanton and Osceola Track Meets
Track season is officially in full swing!
And with a spring feel in the air and a record high temperature of mid 50s, the Clarkson-Leigh track team travelled to Stanton on March 26. Surprisingly, the team didn’t need a boat or a submarine, but they did take a couple of detours. Despite the recent flooding, the teams truly came to compete, and Clarkson-Leigh’s 25 athletes certainly showed their strength at the meet.
Senior Kaegan Held said, “I think for the first meet out, we did pretty well as a team. It was good to see my teammates and myself competing hard and earning medals, even with a small team. I am excited for the rest of our season, and I hope that the whole team has a lot of success this year!!”
The whole team certainly did well, and the girls placed 3rd overall with 77 points. The meet also included unified races and jumping, so everyone got to compete which is always fun to be a part of.
Assistant Coach Jim Clarkson said, "The season's first track meet was filled with some awesome performances for a 1st meet. The effort by the athletes was full tilt which makes us coaches extremely happy and proud. A lot of the times were right where we ended the 2018 season which is a good sign going forward. There was also some solid performances by our Freshmen athletes. Hopefully things will continue to progress as the season goes along. GoPats!!"
The weather for the next meet wasn’t quite so seasonable. Despite the cold on March 28, the Patriots gave it their all and competed well for the second track meet of the season in Osceola. And even though they almost lost a couple toes from the cold, the girls still placed third overall with 72 points.
Freshman Natalie Brabec said, “Even though the weather was against the team, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots competed well in their events.” And I think everyone present would agree.
