Girls Track Team Runner-Up at Districts!

5 Girls Track Athletes Qualify for State!

Five girls track athletes qualified for State Track: (L to R): Sara McEvoy, Emily Loseke, Kaegan Held, Halee Steffensmeier, McKenna Stodola.

May 9 was a day full of many firsts for the Clarkson-Leigh track team, and Patriot athletes were racing, jumping, or throwing, district track was an eventful day for everyone.

The girls’ team finished as runner-up of the district meet, qualifying five athletes for state.  Kaegan Held qualified in the 110M Hurdles, Emily Loseke qualified in 100M Dash and 200M Dash. Halee Steffensmeier qualified in the 400M Dash and broke a Patriot record.  Sara McEvoy qualified in the Discus, and the girls 4x100M Relay team of Kaegan Held, Emily Loseke, McKenna Stodola, and Halee Steffensmeier qualified.

Head coach Bri Wietfeld said, “What an amazing feeling I had after that day. Our girls entered this meet cool, calm and collected. We had a tough district, but that didn’t intimidate them to back down. We had great personal records, team records broken, and much more that contributed to our success at districts. We ended our regular season showing all that hard work pays off. I’m proud of them all.”

Overall, district track this year was another successful track meet. And even though the team moved up from Class D to C, the team competed very well. Their hard work certainly paid off, as they received a Runner-Up plaque at districts and had 5 athletes qualify for State, and the unified girls compete as well.

As head coach Lee Schneider said, “District track was another great meet where our athletes were able to go out and perform at a high level. There were many personal records that were broken, even though the weather was not ideal. It makes the coaches extremely proud when we see the kids go out and give their best. For some, district track is the end of their season, but for others they punched their ticket for the State Meet at Omaha Burke! We are excited for this chance to practice for another week and get to spend more time with our incredibly talented athletes. It really is a joy, and the whole season has been a blast!”
