Patriots Face the Number One Team in the State

Freshman Mason Whitmore evades a Humphrey St. Francis tackle.

The Clarkson-Leigh Patriots recently took on the number one team in the state, Humphrey St. Francis, on their home field on September 13.

In the first quarter Humphrey St. Francis went up early off a 3-yd run from Trever Pfeifer who also put the two-point conversion in himself. Later in the first, Pfeifer also scored off a 1-yd run and two-point conversion.

The Patriots moved the ball well and made St. Francis work for both of their touchdowns, but the Patriots could not score.

In the second quarter the Patriots were also unable to put points on the board again, while St. Fran scored two more touchdowns off an 11-yard run and a 69-yard pass. The Flyers put in one two point conversion off a run from Justin Leifeld making the score 0-30 in favor of the Flyers going into halftime.

In the second half the Flyers scored three more touchdowns putting in two of the two point conversions to end the game with 52 points. Clarkson-Leigh didn’t score in the second half, but ended the game with a good drive until time ran out.

When asked about the game sophomore Eli Hays said, “We played a tough game against a good team and they ended up coming out on top. I am excited to see what we can do later in the season.”

Coach Jeff Bachman said, “We faced a really tough opponent and we went out and gave our best shot. I was proud of how we battled. The score wasn't reflective of how we performed.”

The loss brings the Patriots’ record to 0-2.
