On September 21, the Clarkson-Leigh C-team travelled to the annual Wisner-Pilger C team/JV tournament, capturing one win out of 3 games they played.

Their first match-up was a close one against Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur.  After taking the first 26-24, they lost the second 23-25, and the third 8-15.

In the second set, they defeated GACC in another three-set game, but in the third game, they lost another close one to Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

“We went 1-2 Saturday,” Coach KC Hegemann said.  “Overall I was disappointed from the lack of urgency from the team.  I would like to see the girls have the mental focus to close out an entire match. This is something that has to come from within themselves.  If we eliminate our unforced errors, we can play with anybody.  In one of the matches we lost 23-25 and gave up 21 points of unforced errors. That is something that can never happen, at any level.”

Sophomore Maddie Noonan was frustrated with the team’s performance as well.

“I just didn’t feel like we were mentally there,” Noonan said.  “It’s like we came out on the court not ready to play and were only able to focus our energy for bits and pieces of each game. I hope our future practices helps us out will gain more skills so we can continue to improve.”

Freshman Korbee Wendt led the way in kills overall with 17 total throughout the tourney, Freshman Kerstyn Held recorded 45 set assists total, and Melissa Bunner had 8 ace serves.
