Cyclones Win O’Neill Tournament

Feat Marks First Tourney Win in Cyclone Program History

From leaving at 7 in the morning, to not getting back home until after 10 at night, the Highway 91 Cyclones had a long, but well-spent day at the O’Neill tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The Cyclones started the morning with the first game at 10 am, as they defeated Pierce 11-0. In the second game, the Cyclones beat Ponca 5-2, moving them forward into the championship game.

“It was exciting knowing we were going to play in the championship game. However, it was suspenseful when our game was over and we had to wait for the other games to get done to determine who would compete against us,” said junior, Rylee Olson.

In the final game of the day, the Cyclones fought back and forth with West Point-Beemer. They clinched the lead in the fifth inning with a winning score of 9-8.

“It is exciting but also almost stressful, for me and the girls, when we are playing a close game like we did versus West Point-Beemer especially in a championship game,” Head Coach Adam Indra said.  “I am proud of the entire team for keeping their energy even after a long day in the sun. In my six years of coaching, this is the first time we have ever won a championship medal at a tournament. There has been many seconds and thirds, but never a first, and for that I am extremely proud of everyone.”
