Softball Finishes Season 15-12

After two months, three tournaments, and 27 games, the Cyclones Softball Team wrapped up a very accomplished season with a final record of 15-12.

The Cyclones had districts on October 9th and 10th in Pierce. There were seven teams at districts: Boone Central/Newman Grove, Highway 91, Madison/Humphrey/Lindsay, O’Neill, Pierce, Ponca, and Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

The district was very evenly matched from the first seed to the last seed this year. The Cyclones would have to battle and be ready to play their best.

The Cyclones didn’t finish how they wanted to, but ended up with a record of 1-2. Guardian Angels Central Catholic won districts.

The first game, the Cyclones played Pierce. After winning the game by run rule, they played Boone Central/Newman Grove. The Cyclones had beat them once earlier in the season, but the Cardinals were ready to play. The Cyclones lost their first game of districts to the Cardinals.

The team then had to play Ponca. The Cyclones had also beat them earlier in the season. The team couldn’t underestimate Ponca because they were ready to play and win. The Cyclones played well, but couldn’t find the win against Ponca. This concluded the Cyclones’ district tournament and season.

Throughout the course of the season, there were highs and lows, but the Cyclones did a great job of battling through the tough times and always remembered to have fun.

Senior, Payje Rayback, said, “During our first game of districts we played really well. Throughout the next two games we had some errors on defense, and we didn’t have timely hitting. Overall, I’m glad to see what we’ve accomplished all season. This year was the first time we’ve ever beat Tekamah and the first time we’ve won a tournament. We just fell short in the long run.”

Head coach, Adam Indra, said, “This wasn’t the way we want to cap, for the most part, a good season. Overall, we had a successful season and did a great job of competing and working to get better every day. As a program we are better today than we were yesterday. Thank you to Payje Rayback and Natalie Reeves for the past four years.”
