EHC Volleyball Ends in Disappointment for Pats

The Patriot volleyball team has had a great record for this season so far, but struggled overall in the East Husker Conference Tournament.   On October 17th and 19th, the lady Pats played Pender, Stanton, Howells-Dodge and BRLD.

In the first game of the tournament, the Patriots won both sets against Pender. The first set was 19-25 and then the Patriots took the Pendragons by storm the next set 25-10.

The next game was Stanton, and a battle ensued.   The Patriots would get a point then the Mustangs and back and forth, but then the Mustangs pulled ahead and took the first set 25-16. The second set was much closer and even more of a battle, but yet again the Mustangs won 30-32.

After an amazing battle with Stanton, the next game was BRLD on Saturday morning in Pender.  It was also a battle that went onto three sets. The first set the Patriots won 25-19, then BRLD won the next set, defeating the Patriots 19-25. The third set came and the Patriots were craving a win but lost 15-25.

After this unexpected loss, the Patriots went on to play Howells Dodge.  Like the BRLD game, the Patriots won the first set, but lost the second two.

“We came out strong, but as the day went on, we slowed down and lost our flow. Things just didn’t seem to go our way and we weren’t able to come out with a win. I think this gave us motivation and we learned from our errors,” said junior Kayden Schumacher.

“We did not do as well as we had expected,” head coach Rebecca Schneider said. “Thursday's game went well. We battled well with both teams (Pender, Stanton), but we just couldn't pull of the win against Stanton. Saturday's matches were not our best volleyball. Even though we took the first sets in both games, we just couldn't put anything together in the next sets. Our opponents stopped making errors and did a better job of taking care of the ball, which we talked about between sets, instead of rising to the challenge and taking charge, we just broke down. We just did not do a great job of taking care of the ball. We need to be able to stay present in the match and figure out ways to get back into the system in order to attack and stay aggressive.”
