Large Number of Clarkson-Leigh Students Qualify for Honor Choir!

With sports seasons coming to close, other activities are full of involvement. It was the time of year again for the East Husker Conference Honor Choir.

Students from both Leigh and Clarkson were able to attend Honor Choir on Monday, November 4th. The day was spent practicing in Pender, with a concert at 7:00 o’clock.

The students spent the day practicing five songs with Scott Dugdale, the choir director at Papillion La Vista and his accompanist Anne Smith.

The group sang five songs: “Star Spangled Banner” arr. Russell Robinson, “Every Valley” by John Ness Beck, “Seasons of Love” arr. Roger Emerson, “Riversong” by Andy Beck, and “Bridge O’re Troubled Water” arr. Kirby Shaw.

The Clarkson-Leigh full choir also joined in the fun by singing “Who will be a Witness” between the performance of the Honor Choir songs.

Choir director, Cindy Settje said, “I was very excited about this year’s East Husker Choral Clinic.  Taking 18 students from Leigh and Clarkson was the largest group that I can remember taking in a long time.  Of course, there were a lot of skills learned about music, but so many other important things were also experienced and gained.  Our individual choir sang “Who Will Be a Witness” and did a great job.  The high school choir has become a close group. They continue to gain skills, and they are fun to teach.”

The 18 Patriot students who qualified to participate in Honor Choir are listed as follows:

Sopranos: Abbi Brabec, Alicia Holmberg, Natalie Brabec, Joy Mapel, Hazel Mundt, Ashly Guillen.

Altos: Taya Gross, Lexi Schroder, Rylee Olson, Makenna Held, Cassie Brabec, Bailie Graybill.

Tenors: Darian Ober-Brown, Jase Indra.

Bass: Mitch Beeson, Audie Tejkl, Kyle Holmberg, Drew Beeson.

When the students tried out, they also tried out for the Elite Honor Choir. Clarkson-Leigh had two students selected for this group: Rylee Olson and Drew Beeson. Mitch Beeson was chosen as an alternate.

Rylee and Drew sang “Der Gang zum Liebchen” in the Elite Honor Choir.

Junior Rylee Olson said, “It was overall a really fun day. The director was really good to work with and brought some new singing techniques to our attention.”
