Patriot VB Hosts First Home Matches
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Patriots had a tough battle on Thursday, September 5th, as they took to their home court for the first time this season, playing Stanton and Madison in a triangular at home.
The Patriots played Stanton first and lost in 3. They had a strong first set, beating the Mustangs 25-19 after a strong serving run by Kayden Schumacher. But in the second and third sets, the Patriots struggled executing their attack game and made way too many unforced errors, losing 13-25 and 20-25. Schumacher led the way in this game with 8 kills, 4 aces, and 8 digs. Makenna Held paced the offense with 24 set assists. Cassidy Hoffman also added 8 kills and 2 blocks.
After the loss to Stanton, the Patriots played Madison and won the game easily in two sets. It was a well-balanced attack for the Patriots, as Schumacher pounded home 11 kills while Hoffman and senior Kim Stodola each added 7.. Kennedy Settje recorded 10 digs, and Held set up the attack once again with 26 assists.
Stanton also defeated Madison in the third game of the night.
Head Coach Rebecca Schneider said, “I thought we took another step forward especially against Madison. We started out really well with Stanton winning that first set. That was a huge accomplishment in itself, but we needed to use that as motivation and carry it over into the next set and we didn’t. They really stepped it up and we just couldn’t recover.
We bounced back and played Madison really well both sets. We played with more consistency and we were able to set up our offense more than we have in other games. It was another day of growth for the team and we will continue to strive to be better than the day before!”
