Patriots Go Down in VB Triangular
The Patriot Volleyball team was fired up and ready to square off against Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family and High Plains on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Humphrey. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a rough night for the Patriots, as they lost both games.
Against Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family, the first set was an ongoing battle, but the Patriots succeeded in holding them back 25-23. The next set did not go as well as the first with HLHF taking the set 16-25. Then the last set came suspense of who would win the final set. The Patriots came out flat, allowing HLHF to take the set 12-25.
“We came out with a vengeance and played really well the first set. Then in the second and third sets we lost our momentum and we were not able to finish out the game strong,” said junior, Kayden Schumacher.
“We have to give Humphrey-LHF credit,” Head Coach Becky Schneider said. “They are small, but feisty, and after losing the first set, they never gave up.”
Then their next battle was with High Plains. Ready to pick up a win for the night, the Patriots were shook when they lost the first set 22-25. This then carried over to the second set, and they lost again, 22-25.
“It was a pretty rough game. We made a lot of errors and that’s what cost us in the end. Moving forward we just need to work on managing our mistakes and bouncing back if we make any,” junior, Cassidy Hoffman said.
Coach Schneider said the evening should be treated as a learning opportunity.
“We had watched High Plains play against HLHF, and we really just overlooked them. They came out ready to play and we did not. We were off on our serve receive, which meant we couldn’t run our offense. We did get a lot of good touches on blocks, but it was definitely an off night for us, which is unfortunate. We’ve got to learn from it and move on.”
These losses bring the Patriot record to 3-5.
