Patriot VB Defeats Shelby/Rising City in Triangular
The Patriot Volleyball team had their third triangular of the season. They took on Lutheran High Northeast and Shelby/Rising City at Shelby on Tuesday, October 8.
The Patriots lost versus LHNE in their first and last sets. The Patriots scrambled in the second set to take one from the Eagles, but they just gave away too many points in the other sets to win the contest.
However, it was a different ball game versus Shelby/Rising City. The Huskies came out with energy and took the first set from the Patriots, 23-25, but the Patriots continued to battle and took the last two sets, 25-19 and 25-14.
Sophomore Makenna Held said, “Going into the Shelby Triangular I think we were ready to play after the big win against Howells-Dodge in our tourney. We put up a good fight against Lutheran High Northeast and even took a set from them, but we couldn't take care of the ball and couldn't do the little things right. I thought we played hard against Shelby/Rising City and were very aggressive. I'm glad we came through with a win against them, and I'm excited for the rest of our season!”
Coach Rebecca Schneider said, “We didn’t quite play our style of game at the triangular. We definitely battled in both matches; however, there were moments where we didn't do a great job of taking care of the ball, and we were inconsistent with our communication. Against LHNE, we were able to shut them down at times, especially in the second set to force a third, but in the end, it just came down to errors and we gave up too many points. Luckily, we might get a rematch with them as they are in our sub-district! Against Shelby/Rising, we played a little bit better, but still struggled with some unforced errors. We really started to come alive in the third set and do a better job with communication and taking care of the ball.”
