Patriots Beats Mead to Win District Championship
The Clarkson Leigh Patriot football team recently traveled to Mead on October 18 to face the Raiders for a district title.
Sophomore Carter Hanel said, “I think we showed up and executed and won against a good team.”
The Patriots came out hot in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns and keeping Mead scoreless. Eli Hays ran in both touchdowns, the first off a 14-yd run and the second off a 55-yd run. Hays put in the first two-point conversion, but the Patriots failed to put in the second one, making the score 14-0 going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Hays scored again off a 4-yd run, but the team failed to put the two-point conversion in.
Mead also scored in the second quarter off an 18-yd pass. The Raiders were successful on the two-point conversion, making the score 20-8 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Patriots added another touchdown to the scoreboard as Drew Besson ran for a 49-yd touchdown. Hays ran in the two-point conversion putting the Patriots up 28-8 going into the fourth quarter. The Patriots scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. One came off a 4-yd run from Lance Paprocki with the two-point conversion being put in by Carter Hanel. The other was off a 14-yd run from Hays with the two-point conversion being put in by Isaak Wiese.
When asked about the game, Coach Hays said, “We played a good game and controlled the game on the offense and defense of side.”
