Patriots Dominate Dragons
Both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams dominated against Madison on Saturday. Each team won by at least a 20-point margin, and the JV teams also battled with the Dragons.
The girls’ JV started the night out strong with a win over the Dragons. They defeated Madison 35-14.
The boys’ JV was the only loss for the night. Even though they didn’t pull out the win, it was still a well fought battle with a final score of 32-40 in the Dragon’s favor. Mason Whitmore led the team with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
In the first varsity match of the night, the Lady Patriots tied the record for the most points scored in a match with a score of 69-31.
Head coach, Matt Murren said, “The girls came out and responded well after our opening game. We had 9 different girls score and was awesome to see the team share the basketball and find the open scorer.”
The Patriots came out fierce and ended the first quarter with a lead of 19 points over Madison. They maintained this pace throughout the rest of the game which resulted in the great win.
"This game was a really good game for us to work on our man offenses and really push the ball the way we like to,” said senior post, Reagan Settje. “We still have some things we need to work on, but it is only the beginning of the season. I can't wait to see the progress we make!"
The boys’ varsity game was a similar story. They limited the Dragons to 2 points in the first quarter while scoring 14 themselves. They continued this intensity until the third quarter when Madison started to make a little bit of a comeback. The Patriots shut it down right away, though, and closed out the game with a score of 64-44.
“I was very proud of the effort and how we battled against a difficult style. This was a good first win for us,” said head coach, Jeff Bachman.
Both boys’ and girls’ records after the first two games are 1-1.
