Patriot BB Season Opener Ends in Losses

In the girls' varsity game against H-LHF, sophomore Kennedy Settje chases down a loose ball.

On December 6th one of the biggest basketball showdowns of the season took place in the very first game of the year. In Clarkson-Leigh’s first game of the season, they were set to match up with the Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs on their home court.  The stakes were high, the players competitive, and the crowd supportive, and when the marathon began, bystanders could feel the energy and excitement.

At the end of the night, both Clarkson-Leigh Varsity teams lost after a well fought battle. The end score for the girls’ game was 41- 48 and was close for all four quarters.

"We battled and played hard! We got a lot of shots off, but they just couldn't fall and we had too many fouls. Overall, we played well as a team. We'll probably be seeing this team again, and we know what we need to do better for next time,” said junior Alissa Kasik.

Furthermore, the Varsity boys’ team lost after a long, hard struggle with an end score of 34-77.

Head boys coach Jeff Bachman said, “It was fun to get back into games for the season. I was really proud how the boys battled against a really good team. We ultimately came up short but it was a good opportunity for us to grow as a Program.”

Both Clarkson-Leigh JV teams lost as well, but the players battled well and improved as the games continued. The girls’ end score was 20-25, and the boys’ end score was 24-54.
