Leigh One-Act Team Finishes Fourth at Districts

The Leigh High School One-Act team has wrapped up another successful season.  They competed well throughout the season and, most importantly, put on a great show for their audience.

This year, Leigh’s play was called The Travels and Travails of a Trio.  It was a parody of Oh Brother Where Art Thou, and featured three escaped convicts played by Carson Ahrens, Kanyon Held, and Logan Schroeder, who go through a series of events in which they see an elderly woman, a young Elvis, three angelic devils, a fortune teller, and a preacher.  In the end, they choose to get back to the straight and narrow and abandon their lawless ways.

After holding their annual dinner theater performance at the end of November, the One-Act group next performed their school matinee performance on December 2.  The first and second grade classes again were the opening act with their play, Stone Soup.

Next up was districts.  District one act this year was held at Lyons-Decatur. There were six other plays that competed in districts: Emerson-Hubbard, Winside, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Scribner-Snyder, Lindsay Holy Family, and Osceola.

Leigh ended up placing fourth at districts.  Lindsay Holy Family was the champion. Leigh had eight actors and actresses recognized for outstanding performances including Carson Ahrens, Kanyon Held, Logan Schroeder, Alicia Holmberg, Audie Tejkl, Payje Rayback, Reagan Settje, and Alexis Schroeder.

Head coach Kylie Hollatz said, “District One Act was our best performance of the season. Our cast and crew worked really hard the past two weeks to perfect what needed to be worked on.  Thank you for everyone who helped throughout the year. It was a good season.”
