FCCLA Qualifies 21 Students for State Competition in 11 Categories!
Anyone who knows anything about FCCLA knows that competing at STAR competitions is an important time in any chapter each year.
This year 25 students from the Clarkson-Leigh chapter competed at District 5 STAR Events Competition. And boy did they represent our chapter well! The event was held on Wednesday, January 29th at Howells-Dodge Consolidated Schools starting at 9:00 am.
13 total groups represented the Clarkson-Leigh chapter, and 11 of those 13 advanced to State FCCLA in April. Other schools attending were: Boone Central, David City, East Butler, Howells-Dodge, Humphrey, Madison, St. Edward, Schuyler, and Twin River.
Advisor, Mrs. Megan Hillen, said “The members competing in STAR did extremely well and I am so proud of how they represented our chapter. We are looking forward to competing in Lincoln.”
STAR stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities.
Our STAR competitors did many projects this year. Some informed elementary students of different ways to communicate, one competitor worked with students to think about kindness through being Secret Kindness Agents, one investigated a career, other competitors did research projects, some took pieces of furniture and gave them new purposes, and one group made and sold scrunchies and donated the proceeds to Meyer’s SIDS Retreat.
Senior, Abbi Brabec, who qualified at the senior level, said “I am happy with the results of the day. It is awesome that so many of our members are going to state!”
