Varsity Boys Basketball Concludes Season

As the Patriots wrapped up their regular season with a win against David City, they knew it was now or never as they headed to the first round of Sub-Districts at Norfolk Catholic. On February 25th, the number 4 seed, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots, took on the number 1 seed, the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs.

The boys started off a little slow to start the game, leaving the Bulldogs with a nine-point lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Patriots kicked up the heat a little as they stuck with their opponent, not quite matching their points, scoring Patriot 10 and Bulldog 12 points. At the end of the first half, the score was 17-28, Bulldog lead.

As the second half came around, the Patriots just couldn’t hang with the Bulldogs, with a third quarter score of 26 points to the Patriots’ 12. The score at the end of the second half was 40-71, Patriot loss.

Head Coach, Jeff Bachman, said, “We ran into a really good Humphrey-LHF team. I thought our guys battled hard, but we couldn’t quite match them.”

Sophomore Carter Hanel was the leading scorer for the Patriots with 10 points.  Jarred Novotny and Eli Hays were right behind with 9 points apiece.

After defeating the Patriots, the 22-3 Bulldogs went on to defeat Howells-Dodge in the subdistrict finals and Elmwood-Murdock in the district finals, securing a spot at state.

The Patriots finished the season 8-14.  They look forward to continuing to grow as a team in the off season and into next year!
