Why Vacations Are So Important

Whether you are heading to the mountains to go skiing, travelling to another country, or even just going to the lake to go boating, vacations are meant to give your brain a chance to escape. They are meant for people to forget about the same, dull, everyday tasks and enjoy time away. I believe that is true.

Mental breaks are usually a day break to rejuvenate your brain and let you relax—one day dedicated to enjoyment, which people sometimes don’t get. A day break can give your brain a quick break, and you don’t have to worry about doing any of your daily tasks. Some people might not believe what a difference a day to relax can make.

Although day breaks are satisfactory, vacations are even greater stress relievers. Everyone has a lot on their plate. Students have homework that they have to get done, as well as extracurriculars, jobs, and many other tasks they have to attend to. Parents have kids to take care of, jobs to report to, and many other priorities that they are expected to check off their To-Do list each day.

In my opinion, everyone needs time away from all of their priorities to just relax, get rest, and enjoy some time away. The answer to relaxing and having fun is a vacation. Everybody needs a couple of days to help clear their minds and rejuvenate their bodies. It serves as more than a mental break if you have multiple days where you don’t have to worry about fulfilling usual responsibilities.

I feel that vacations are very necessary. Repeating the same routine everyday, like going to work, school, or whatever you do during the week can get very boring. Vacations are helpful to many people who have busy lives, instead of just a short mental break. Taking a longer break can be refreshing, and stem the monotony that people are used to.

Vacations are truly what you make them. You can choose to make it boring like the rest of your days, or you can choose to enjoy them and let them help you relax, refresh, and rejuvenate yourself!

In light of recent coronavirus headlines inciting national fear, vacations and breaks are not able to be taken during this time even though they are so important. We are being quarantined in our homes, and not able to be around our friends, community members, or even some family members. Some may say they are on an extended “vacation.” They are at home and unable to leave their homes. Some are struggling with this “vacation” and miss their friends, family, and maybe even school or jobs. Many are missing out on important events that would have profoundly impacted their lives and created meaningful memories.

As citizens, we don’t know when the end of this pandemic will come, but we hope it is soon. This extended “vacation” may be enjoyable for some, but for others, it’s heartbreaking. Of course, this is something none of us ever expected, but it has ruined so much for so many.  But even in our current situation, we cannot forget to make some sort of “break” or “mini vacation” a priority. Even if this might mean going for a walk outside instead of heading to Omaha for an exciting day out.  Anything we can do to provide a minute to relax will provide clarity and rejuvenation in a time when we need it most!

In all, even though some people think that vacations are a waste of time and productivity, I really believe they can benefit everyone. I am a strong believer that vacations are great, and you should make the most of them!
