Cyclones Take Tough Blows from Tekamah-Herman and GACC

By: Kennedy Settje, a junior at Leigh High School

The Cyclones have had a very busy week this week. After a Saturday tournament, they started off the week with games Monday and Tuesday, followed by a final triangular on Thursday.

The Cyclones played in Dodge on August 27 against Tekamah-Herman and GACC.

Knowing they were going against two very good teams heading into the night, they focused on being well prepared. Getting ready for the game during their only practice of the week, they made sure to work on the important factors of the game and the areas where they needed the most improvements.

The Cyclones first game was played against Tekamah-Herman. Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t handle the Tigers. They battled to keep the game going and close, the Tigers took an early lead and never looked back.  The final score was 0-9.

Cassi Rayback and Kyleigh Rayback earned the only two hits of the night for the Cyclones.  Faith Indra, Kennady Schmidt, and Sasha Perrin all had three putouts. Faith Indra also had an assist.

The Cyclones had a chance for redemption after a tough loss to the Tigers. They took on last year's state runner-up, GACC. With high hopes going into the game, they quickly realized this was going to be a tough match up. GACC had three grand slams against the Cyclones and one other run that came in, while the Cyclones couldn’t get anything past GACC’s defense. The final score ended 0-13.

Kyleigh Rayback got the only hit of the game against GACC. Sophie Dvorak, Sasha Perrin, and Faith Indra all contributed to the Cyclones’ fielding with two putouts.

When asked about Thursday night’s games, Senior Rylee Olson said, “It was a tough couple losses. They were humbling and a good reminder that we need to work harder to beat teams of stature.”
