The Highway 91 Cyclones have had an eventful start to their season this year. The Cyclones traveled to Wisner River Park on August 29 for a tough NEN Viper tournament.
After a long day of softball, the Cyclones took home one win and two losses, but still managed to get fourth place.
The Cyclones came into the tournament with high energy, feeling ready to play. They started the day off by playing O’Neill, taking the win 9-4.
Senior Riana Grotelueschen said, “Everyone was excited to start the tournament against O’Neill. We went into the tournament with a lot of excitement. We played well throughout the day, which allowed us to place fourth.”
The second game of the day, the Cyclones took a devastating loss against Blue River. The score was 9-11. They had a slow start and battled back at the end, but it was not enough to pull off the win.
The Cyclones finished off the day with another loss against Boone Central. Boone Central took an early lead, and the Cyclones could not battle back to take the win. The final score was 1-11.
Cyclone assistant coach Tiffany Rayback said, “It’s been a brutal start to the season. We’ve played a lot of games in such a short amount of time. We weren’t able to pull off the victories we hoped for in this tournament, but we made progress for our upcoming games.”
After beginning their season a mere week ago on August 22, the Cyclones already have 10 games under their belts and a record of 5-5.
