Cyclones Grab Two Wins at Home
By: Alissa Kasik, a senior at Leigh High School
Cyclone fans were able to take in two home games in Leigh this week on both Monday and Thursday nights.
The Highway 91 Cyclones held on in a 6-5 victory versus the Polk County Slammers Monday, August 31. After jumping out to an early start and leading 6-1 after the fourth, the Cyclones allowed 4 unanswered runs in the final innings of the game. Thankfully, they did enough to hang on and to clench another victory on the season.
Senior Riana Grotelueschen believes momentum was key in the opening innings.
“We went into the game with energy and excitement,” she said. “We had a great defensive and offensive inning to start the game and that allowed us to keep the momentum going for the whole game."
The Cyclones finished out their games for the week on Thursday with another win. The Cyclones started off with an early lead in the second inning and defeated Logan View/Scribner Snyder 13-8.
Assistant coach Jenica Dietrich said, “It’s nice to see our hitting get better each game. We played well defensively and then took advantage of our opportunities with the bats. Overall, this was a well-played game for our team.”
Junior Faith Indra said, “As a team we had high energy to start the game and carried it throughout the game. It was a great solid win.”
