Cyclones Split Games in West Point Triangular

By: Sage Fernau, a freshman at Leigh High School

On September 10, the Cyclone softball team faced off against two area teams in a Thursday night triangular in West Point.

The Patriots opened the night out against a very similarly matched Twin River team.  The Cyclones started off strong after jumping to a 3-1 lead after the second inning, but they allowed 6 runs in the fourth inning, which eventually led to their demise.  The final score ended 3-7.

The first game may have ended in a loss, but the Cyclones knew they had been working hard in practice, and it showed in the second game against West Point-Beemer.

“The first game was a tough loss, but we stayed strong the second game and brought home the win,” freshman Cassandra Rayback said.

The West Point-Beemer game only lasted three-innings due to run rules, after the Cyclones scored 12 unanswered runs in the second inning.  Pitcher Jaedyn Ratzlaff surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out three.

The final score was 15-0.

This brings the Cyclones record to 8-8 so far this season.
