Cyclones Down O’Neill in Exciting Game

By: Jessica Hoffman, sophomore at Leigh High School

The week of September 15 was a busy week for the Cyclone softball team, with both the JV and Varsity teams in action multiple games.

On September 15, the JV softball girls traveled to Wisner-Pilger. The girls played tough and battled with Wisner-Pilger, but they unfortunately didn’t end up winning the game.

Two days later on September 17, the O’Neil softball team came to Leigh for a JV and Varsity matchup. JVs worked hard and took the win against O’Neil’s JV.

The Varsity battled back and forth, but ultimately took the win with a score of 4-3. A walk-off bunt by Faith Indra got Nessa Krupka home to win the game in the final inning.  8 strikeouts thrown by Cyclone pitcher Jaydyn Ratzlaff helped solidify the win.  This was the last game the Cyclones played in Leigh this season.

“We played strong and aggressive throughout the whole game, but they caught up to us in the end and gave us a scare,” freshman Cassi Rayback said.

“The O’Neill game is always an important game to us,” senior Rylee Olson said. “They’ve always been up on good competition level with us, but I feel like we battled well and took care of business when it counted.”

Assistant Coach Tiffany Rayback agreed.  “O’Neill wasn’t a pretty game, but we executed when it mattered,” she said.
